You have built you website, you naturally have it hosted with catalyst2. Now you need to make sure people find your website. There are lots of ways of marketing your website. As far as search engines go there are 2 main ways.

  1. Pay per click (PPC) – where you pay for each user that clicks on the link to your website (often the links on the right hand side of the page)
  2. Organic Search – normally the links on the left hand side of the page and doesn’t cost you anything.

If you want to increase your natural / organic search rankings, you will most likely need to do some form of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

So what should you do first? I have always been one for doing PPC first. Why? The main reason is that is instant, you can change it very quickly, if some keywords are not working or you feel the call to action needs to be stronger then you can do it straight away and see the impact. SEO on the other hand can take a good few weeks for you change to even show up.

Yes, PPC will cost money but you don’t have to spend a fortune. Start with £50 and see where you get to. Choose your keywords carefully and use all the tools that are available to analyse the people coming to your site and then see if they are buying and if not why not.

Once you are happy you know what adverts and keywords get the best traffic and in turn the most conversions then I would start on the SEO. That gives your SEO the best chance of being successful.
