At catalyst2, our team work with a wide range of different businesses, services and companies on a daily basis across a multitude of industries. One of the fantastic organisations we love working with is The Royal British Legion – and that’s why we’re proud that the renowned charity organisation is continuing to use our services as a website hosting provider to achieve their goals to this day and get the word out about all the great things they do.

The Poppy Appeal

The British Legion is one of the best-known charities in the UK, serving British Armed Forces, Veterans, Reservists and more. Their most well-known event is the annual Poppy Appeal for November, the period of remembrance. The British Legion’s website features details of how money can be raised to help benefit veterans and other members of the Armed Forces, including thousands of inspiring examples of past fundraising.

First established as a tradition in 1921, over 95 years ago, the poppy has long been a symbol of The Royal British Legion, as inspired by one of the most famous world war one poems, In Flanders Fields. Over the years, these red poppies have become a British staple and, as reflected on the charity’s website, have been used in a multitude of exciting and creative ways to help raise funds and awareness for a great cause.

Not only do the poppies sold help to benefit the charity, but they’re also created in the same factory as they initially were back at their establishment, initially employing disabled ex-servicemen to produce all of the poppies for sale. That same facility continues to deliver the poppies, pins and badges people wear on their lapels to this day.

A great cause

The Royal British Legion helps hundreds of thousands of people within the UK. As their website states, the funds raised go towards many worthwhile causes, such as Welfare for the Armed Forces community, with anything from careers advice to rehabilitation courses offered thanks to generous donations. An amount of their budget also goes towards awareness and remembrance, to respectfully remember the sacrifices of both old and new combat.

For many families, the British Legion is a lifeline for their husbands, wives, partners and other family members to support them and provide the correct care and help. That’s one of the many reasons we’re proud to be able to provide hosting to such a stellar charity. The British Legion has contributed so much aid and support to our troops over the last 96 years, from veterans to our current forces, and will continue to do so for many years to come, thanks to generous donations and appeals.
